The production

Are Magizh Meraki Copper vessels made of pure copper?

Yes! We only use the highest grade quality of pure copper. We provide a Certificate of Purity by authorized Malaysian laboratories for all copper purchases.

How can I test the purity of a copper bottle at home?

The simplest test is to apply lemon juice on your copper vessel and then rinsing it with water. A pure copper vessel will instantly brighten; showing hues of a reddish glow.

Are your copper vessels handmade?

Yes, all our copper vessels are traditionally handmade (in India) and shaped out of a single sheet of pure copper. The outcome – a completely seamless and jointless copper vessel! As with all things handmade, you can expect some minor irregularities but this won’t affect the quality or its medical benefits to your health. Just a unique touch to a copper product you can call your own.

Why are your copper vessels hammered?

Our collection of copper vessels are all hand-hammered using a variety of traditional techniques – fine, strong, line and more. This creates an attractive texture; adding shine and depth as the copper reflects the light at different angles, and makes for an aesthetically pleasing accessory to your home. More importantly, hammering the metal to shape the vessel increases the surface area of copper in contact with water to optimize the purification process and reap maximum health benefits.

Are the copper bottles leakproof?

Some of our copper products include a food-safe seal and a copper leak-proof cap to ensure you reach your hydration requirements without any worries of spills or splashes. Please contact us for advisory on the best copper bottles that would suit your lifestyle.

I noticed some scratches on my copper bottle. Is it damaged?

No, it is not damaged. Our range of copper vessels are handmade using pure copper – a soft metal that is malleable. As such, they have a natural tendency to dent and scratch more easily compared to stainless steel bottles. As they are handmade by traditional artisans, it is normal to notice some minor irregularities and unique imperfections.

Why are my copper vessels beginning to look old, worn out, discoloring?

As your vessels are made out of pure copper, a beautiful patina will gradually appear on the interior and exterior. This is due to the natural oxidization process that occurs which essentially means that the copper is doing its job to purify the water and make it more alkaline!

Most people prefer this antique appearance as it is also a confirmation of the purity and quality of copper used. However, if you would rather have the copper shine, please refer to our guide on how to care for your copper vessel.

The right usage

What type of water should I use to store in a copper vessel?

You can store any type of water in your copper vessel – tap water, bottled water or filtered water. You will notice the greatest difference with tap water which is generally the least alkaline and needs the most purification.

Note: Although tap water is suitable for instant consumption in more developed countries, we still highly recommend filtering the tap water prior to storing it in your copper vessel. This will help to remove any chlorine or chemical residues in the tap water.

Can I use hot water to store in a copper vessel?

No. Hot or boiling water can potentially cause the water to absorb too much copper from the vessel resulting in copper toxicity which is harmful to your health. We advise using warm or room temperature water to store in copper vessels.

Is it recommended to add lemon or other citrus fruits in a copper vessel?

As lemons are highly concentrated in citric acid, this causes the copper vessel to corrode quickly and release more copper in the water. The natural chemical reaction occurring in the vessel could lead to harmful, excessive copper intake and ultimately, copper toxicity.

Although there are plenty of benefits to drinking lemon water or other infused waters, do not add lemon or citrus fruits to copper water vessels. We recommend only storing water in the copper vessels. Alternatively, you may add lemon slices or lemon juice to a separate glass or cup (not made of copper) and pour copper water into it to combine.

Can I store any other beverages, such as coffee, tea, juice, in a copper vessel?

No. Due to the highly reactive nature of copper with acidic liquids, we recommend only storing water in the copper vessels.

Why is my copper kitchenware turning black?

Our full range of copper kitchenware is handmade out of pure copper. As a result of oxidization – the chemical reaction between copper and oxygen, you may notice the discolouration of your copper kitchenware.

When heated, copper can develop a layer of brownish-black copper oxide. If it is not polished and maintained, the copper oxide will continue to reach with moisture in the air to form copper carbonate (a green colour) or better known as the beautiful patina shade.

This is merely a confirmation that pure copper was used in the production of your beloved kitchenware.
